SDSN’s September Highlights
Dear SDSN Community,
Welcome to the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s (SDSN) September Newsletter!
In September, alongside the 80th UN General Assembly and New York City Climate Week, the SDSN convened a series of high-impact events designed to address urgent crises while reimagining the global systems needed for peace, sustainability, and equitable development.
Highlights included a one-day brainstorming on UN Charter reform, exploring steps to ensure the UN remains fit for purpose in today’s world; the announcement of the Universities for Goal 13 Fourth Edition winner; the hybrid alpha launch of Ages of Globalization, a free interdisciplinary program linking history to today’s global challenges and solutions; and two high-level panels on the Amazon’s tipping point, focused on pathways to reconcile conservation with development.
Read on for more SDSN updates, resources, and opportunities.
Sincerely,
The SDSN Secretariat
World Habitat Day
Save the date…
October 6… World Habitat Day…
Crises driven by conflict, instability and climate change are reshaping cities — placing enormous strain on vulnerable communities.
Today, over 60% of the world’s forcibly displaced people seek refuge in urban areas. Many face insecure housing, limited services, and exclusion. Without inclusive planning, displacement fuels the growth of informal settlements, worsening the global housing crisis that already affects billions.
Yet cities can be engines of resilience, growth, and social cohesion — if supported with strong policies, investments, and local leadership.
On the #WorldHabitatDay, we call for urgent action to strengthen local leadership, build resilient urban systems, and ensure no one is left behind in times of crisis.
