SDSN’s January Highlights
Dear SDSN Community,
Welcome to the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s (SDSN) January Newsletter!
Last year marked the warmest year on record, exceeding the 1.5°C global warming limit and raising alarm across the globe. With five years left to achieve the SDGs, progress is more urgent than ever and the SDSN hit the ground running in January. In Malaysia, we hosted the ASEAN Workshop on Sustainable Development at Sunway University, exploring Southeast Asia’s SDG progress and obstacles.
In Brussels, Belgium, the SDSN launched the Europe Sustainable Development Report 2025, as well as an accompanying study on SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and the future of agri-food systems in the region, during a high-level event with the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), featuring interventions by the European Commission, member states and civil society. The report reveals that SDG progress in the EU has largely stalled since 2020, and highlights persistent social, environmental, and biodiversity challenges in the EU, including sustainable agri-food systems. In a rapidly evolving geopolitical context, it also underlines the importance for the EU to strengthen its SDG/Green Deal Diplomacy with multiple global partners and contribute to an ambitious reform of the Global Financial Architecture, a few months before the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development which will take place in the EU in Seville, Spain.

Sincerely,
The SDSN Secretariat
December Newsletter
Dear SDSN Community,
Welcome to the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s (SDSN) December Newsletter!
In the final months of 2024, the SDSN facilitated critical conversations on sustainable development issues across the globe. In Brazil, the Science Panel for the Amazon explored solutions for conservation, restoration, and health in the Amazon. At the UNCCD COP16 in Saudi Arabia, the Global Schools Program introduced a new initiative to integrate land restoration into school curricula. In Mexico, the FABLE Consortium showcased its work on food and land systems at the GLP 5th Open Science Meeting. And the SDSN’s Networks drove meaningful dialogues on sustainable development solutions in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Europe, both virtually and in-person.
As we enter 2025 and the final five years of the 2030 Agenda, collaboration across sectors remains critical for accelerating SDG progress. We’re excited to kick off January with the publication of the 2025 European Sustainable Development Report, and we look forward to building on our efforts to inform, educate, empower, and mobilize global and local solutions for sustainable development.
Sincerely,
The SDSN Secretariat
